The manual doesn't say whether you can use the switch in this way on a hill. WebHill assist & electronic handbrakes are separate systems, you don't need one to have the other. Hill assist uses your hydraulic brake system to keep the car stationary, electronic handbrakes use a separate electric-mechanical system with the ability to auto release when setting off. At least for VAG cars, not sure of other brands.
