WebMar 17, 2006 · The tank water had been at 7.8 like our tap water; it suddenly dropped to 7.0 in a day for no apparent reason. When I checked on the barbs, I could see my older barb seemed to be in distress. I searched my plants for the remaining barbs and found one dead, one dying, two in distress; one had just disappeared. So I have 3 sick barbs now.

Most tetra are aggressive except cylindrical tetra such as cardinal, neon and rummynose. Not sure about amber as I’ve never owned, my deep body Diamond, Congo and bleeding heart tetra are aggressive. Rasboras is probably the most peaceful schooler.

However, since you need to keep them as a group of at least 6 fish, 25-30 gallons would be ideal for them. Cherry Barbs can survive in a small space but it is not healthy for them.
Tank Size. The recommended tank size for Cherry Bards is at least 25 to 30 gallons. This will allow you to comfortably fit a school of these fish in one tank without them feeling too cramped.
