What maintenance is required after the Needle-Leaf WEDGE products are installed?

Under “normal” conditions, needles, leaves and debris from the roof fall to the surface of the WEDGE.  The debris is about level with the edge of the gutter and can be blown to the ground.  If you live right under a tree and excessive needles and debris collects, you can blow or brush the debris to the ground. Corners, or the convergence of two roof surfaces, can present the area most likely to require cleaning. The presence of debris does not usually obstruct the flow of water through the gutter and out the downspout.

Can the WEDGE be removed from the gutters for cleaning?

In most cases, the WEDGE is not removed for any cleaning.  Any debris accumulation can generally be blown or brushed off of the surface.  If the sand or dirt from a roof saturates the WEDGE and prohibits water flow, an affected section can be removed and hosed off from the bottom side to clear an obstruction.  This would RARELY ever be necessary.

Will sprouts grow inside of the WEDGE?

Seeds can fall onto the WEDGE and, under the right conditions, sprout.  This will usually be limited by lack of water and the drying of the sun.  Some customers have sprayed the sprouts with Round-up to kill the sprouts.

What happens to the small “sand” or “gravel” from a composition roof?

Generally, the sand will make its way through the foam architecture and bet washed out the downspout.  If the gutter does not drop about ½ inch per 16 feet, the sand can just rest on the floor of the gutter.  The sand by itself will not cause the gutters to back up. 

Aren’t all gutter foam products the same?

No, no, no!  Unfortunately, in pictures on the internet, or even seen in a store without another foam product to compare, they all look similar.  The main thing to consider is the presence or length of a warranty.  Many foam products have no warranty or a five-year warranty.  These products have very little or no Anti-UV coatings and disintegrate and breakdown quickly inside the gutter.  ALL Needle-Leaf WEDGE products are made from the finest multipolymer gutter foam and have a 25-Year No-Clog Warranty.

Can Needle-Leaf WEDGE products be used on metal roofs?

Yes. Metal roofs present a problem for most other forms of gutter protection.  Water on metal roofs has little resistance and can flow too fast toward the gutters.  Aluminum products, screens and plastic covers, when hit with rushing water, cause the water to splash to the ground.  The Needle-Leaf WEDGE products can withstand more water volume than any cover, and better than most other foam products due to its porous architecture.

Won’t the spongy looking WEDGE absorb water?

No. The WEDGE is like a sieve, not a sponge; it will not hold or retain ANY water.
